As a Consultant – Automation & Digital Transformation, you will help industrial clients modernize their production processes using automation technologies and best practices. You will combine technical expertise with clear communication, guiding people and processes through meaningful change.

Your responsibilities include:

• Analyse production processes and identify where automation can improve safety, efficiency, quality, or consistency.

• Work with operators, engineers, and management to understand challenges and translate them into technical automation solutions.

• Design automation architectures: PLC logic structure, SCADA/DCS functionalities, communication flows, and integration with MES or higher-level systems.

• Support automation projects across the full lifecycle — functional design, programming, testing, FAT/SAT, commissioning, and post-go-live improvements.

• Facilitate workshops to clarify requirements, explain technical concepts, and align stakeholders around realistic solutions.

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (MES consultants, data engineers, process engineers) to build cohesive digital transformation plans.

• Ensure solutions are designed with safety, sustainability, and maintainability in mind.

• Provide training and coaching to users and technical teams to help them adopt new systems confidently.

• Measure and communicate project impact (e.g., reduced downtime, increased performance, improved reproducibility).

What we’re looking for

Essential skills

• Strong experience in industrial automation: PLC, SCADA, DCS (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell, Schneider, Emerson, ABB, Wonderware, Ignition, etc.).

• Ability to understand and map manufacturing processes across sectors such as food, pharma, chemicals, metals, or consumer goods.

• Solid understanding of control logic, field instrumentation, I/O, communication protocols (Profibus, Profinet, Ethernet/IP, OPC UA…).

• Ability to design or review automation architectures and ensure integration with MES, historians, or ERP systems.

• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to translate user needs into robust technical solutions.

• Excellent communication skills — able to explain technical automation concepts in clear, accessible language.

• A collaborative mindset, comfortable working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience with industrial IT or OT systems, cybersecurity basics, or network topologies.

• Experience in commissioning or troubleshooting across multiple automation platforms.

• Knowledge of scripting or data manipulation (Python, SQL, etc.) is a plus but not required.

• Previous experience in consulting or client-facing project roles.

• Fluency in English and Dutch
